How to Buy an E-Scooter For Children

If you’re considering buying a gift that your child will definitely enjoy, an electric scooter should be one of your top options. While this motorized vehicle might cost more than most typical children’s gifts, it is not something your child will easily outgrow.

With electric scooters growing increasingly popular among children, it is hardly surprising that electronic goods manufacturers have taken advantage of the e-scooter craze and started introducing their own versions of this fun ride.

However, while it is a good thing that the market has numerous options to choose from, the downside is that it is now more challenging than ever to choose the best e-scooter. To make it easier for you to choose, here are some important tips to keep in mind when shopping for an e-scooter for children:

1. Ensure That It Is Designed for Children

Ensure that the electric scooter for kids that you want to buy is specifically designed for children before actually making the purchase. Keep in mind that some e-scooters are made for adults, while others are made for youngsters and it is not always easy to tell which is which. Always ensure that the one you buy has features that make it suitable for younger users.

2. Ensure That It is Right for Your Child’s Size and Age

Electric scooters for children have weight limits, which means that there’s a maximum weight they are capable of carrying. If the e-scooter can only carry up to 120 lbs., it wouldn’t be advisable to buy it if you have a child who weighs more than 120lbs.

Electric scooters also have recommended age limits, so ensure that you take note of that too before making the purchase. That will ensure that the weight and height of your child are just right for his/her scooter.

3. Prioritize Lower Ranges and Safe Speeds

Adults obviously want their electric scooters to run as far and as fast as possible, but it isn’t safe for children to use electric scooters that have high ranges and are too fast.

Electric scooters for children generally feature slower speeds compared to those designed for adults, but there are still electric scooters for children that are too fast for their recommended age limits. So, always choose a model that your child can manage easily. It is equally advisable to choose one with a shorter range to ensure that your child does not go too far.

4. A Quick-Charging Battery Is Preferable

The vast majority of electric scooters for children today come with rechargeable batteries, so it isn’t a question of whether you should buy one with a rechargeable battery or not. Rather, it is a question of how long it takes for the battery to be fully charged.

When choosing an electric scooter for your child, ensure that its battery has a short charging time, but can give you a long ride. A good electric scooter battery should allow your child to go for a straight 40 to 50 minutes, no matter the terrain.

5. Watch Out for Essential Safety Features

You should prioritize safety above all else since you are buying an electric scooter for your child. An electric scooter might look cool from the tires up, but if it lacks all the safety features that your child needs to have a safe ride, it is basically useless.

While you can always buy scooter accessories for ensuring the safety of your child while he/she is riding, it pays to buy an e-scooter that already comes equipped with safety features, which include a belle, reflector, headlights, and lock. All these features will ensure a safe ride for your child during the day as well as the night.

6. Pick Steering Handles Appropriate for the Child’s Age

You generally have two options when it comes to e-scooter steering handles: fixed and adjustable. Keep in mind that an e-scooter’s steering handles serve the same purpose as a car’s steering wheel. That’s why it is so important that you make it one of your key considerations when buying an electric scooter for your child.

If your child is still young, you should ideally go for an e-scooter with an adjustable handle that you can adjust according to the height of the child as he/she grows. If your child is already a teen, however, a fixed handle electric scooter will do.

Final Thoughts

Buying an electric scooter for children today is a herculean task, but it can become a lot easier if you know the important things that you should consider. When you shop around for the e-scooter, be sure to follow the tips discussed here to ensure that you end up with nothing less than the best for your child!
