Today we have a guest post from the amazing Jenny from Jenny in Neverland. She was one of the speakers at my Blog to Job Webinar (AD: You can now buy the webinar recording here) and has just launched her first e-course all about Blogging Mindset Mastery today she shares her top tips to get into the right mindset when working with brands.
I’ve been blogging for over 7 years and in that time, I’ve worked with brands, been sent on press trips, reviewed more products than I could ever count, released my own products, and much more. And whilst on the surface, all the practical elements of running a successful blog are in place, there’s one area that I’ve been putting more and more work into over the last year or so to really ramp up how I work and how I’m growing my blog: mindset.
Because running a blog DOES require a lot of mindset work. Whether you’re aware of that or not. And your mindset can play a huge role in how you succeed and how you perceive your own success through your blog. Because if you’ve started a blog in the first place, I assume you want to see some success from it? Whether that’s to grow your following or work with your first brand or review your first product.
I’ve recently released my very first blogging course, Blogging Mindset Mastery which, as the title gives away, focuses heavily on the mindset aspects of blogging. As well as a ton of practical advice thrown in, Blogging Mindset Mastery allows you to learn how to mindfully and kindly grow a successful blog and achieve your goals without being hard on yourself.
As a full-time blogger myself, there’s a pretty hefty section on how to make money blogging and working with brands. It covers the different ways you can earn money through your blog, some tips to help you land sponsored posts, a media kit template, how to find brand work, quick tips on pitching and much more. But in this post I’m going to share my top tips for specifically mastering your mindset when working with brands.

At the start, it’s SO EASY to say yes to everything that’s thrown your way, without giving much thought as to what’s being asked of you or offered to you. I get it, I was the same when I first started working with brands and accepting products to review.
If there’s one thing that all bloggers need to understand is that their time and energy is precious and valuable.
Energy isn’t constant. It needs to be preserved and used wisely. Particularly when working with brands or working on things like sponsored posts or product reviews.
It can be so difficult to know what to charge at first but do a little research, consider your time and energy and don’t be scared to ask for more.
This post: How much do bloggers charge for sponsored posts might be helpful?
Not all brands are going to want to work with you for a variety of different reasons. It’s not personal. And has no relevance to your worth.
If a brand wants you to review their product, you should never be asked to pay for it. Even with a discount code. Even for postage!
Remember, it’s YOUR blog. If you decide to change your mind on something, that’s totally okay. If you’re sent a product and don’t like it, that’s okay too. Just be honest and upfront with the brand who sent it.
