5 tips for starting your own youtube channel

October 25, 2022

Creating a YouTube channel is something that a lot of bloggers, influencers, and even business owners are now doing as it can help to further promote their brand and be used as an extra income stream. According to Nathan Foy who’s own you tube channel Force Thirteen has 87k subscribers they are five key things that you need to consider before starting your own you tube channel.

Know your audience

In order to maximise your views and encourage people to subscribe to your channel you need to know who your ideal audience members are and what they want. That way you can ensure you are releasing relevant content to your audience and that they keep returning for more of the same. This is especially crucial if you want to make money from your videos as opposed to just uploading as a hobby.

Release content on a regular basis

Decide in advance how often you want to release content and create a plan. This could be daily, weekly or even multiple times a day, just remember that consistency is key. This will allow your audience to know when to return to your channel for fresh content and not leave them feeling disheartened when they don’t find any or find they have missed multiple videos.

It may be worth creating a back log of content before your channel goes live so that you have some videos ready to upload during those first few months as you get to grips with all the other aspects of having a channel and work out what your audience wants. This will help you stick to your schedule from the start and take some of the pressure off.

Persevere

Having a you tube channel can feel like hard work and generating the views takes time. It is also common to get some negative feedback at times, especially in the early days when you are finding your feet. Don’t let this put you off, there is a large audience out there tuning into YouTube on a daily basis, you just need to connect with the right audience.

Get creative

The more creative you can be the better. Your content needs to grab your viewers’ attention in the first couple of minutes. It is okay covering similar topics to other people, especially if you are discussing news events, but the key is to make sure your coverage is different. Make your videos engaging and unique but at the same time be true to yourself and ensure that any methods you use you will be able to maintain long term if they are successful.

You don’t need expensive equipment to start

Don’t let the thought of needing expensive equipment put you off starting your channel, especially if you think you have something important to say. YouTube videos can be uploaded from computers, laptops, Ipads or even your phone. Creating content is easier than you think, you just need to get started.
