8 Tips To Grow A Blog For Your Business

February 17, 2022

At first, the excitement of having your own little space on the internet is enough to keep your passion for blogging alive. However, as time goes on, it can become frustrating that the blog isn’t growing as quickly as you might like.

My journey in creating my first blog, A Balanced Belly, was slow and steady. But once I began to devote more time to it, I learnt lots of tips and tricks about what worked and what didn’t.

Prefer to listen over reading? I explore this topic more in my podcast, 5 mistakes you’re making with your blog content, which you can listen to below.

Here are 8 ways to help you grow your own blog for your own business…

1. Share old content regularly

One of the biggest sources of traffic for me is ‘evergreen’ content. This type of content doesn’t get old and is super useful to your readers. You should be sharing this regularly – if your blog is on WordPress then a plugin can help with this.

And don’t be afraid to reshare seasonal content when the time is right!

2. Take advantage of Pinterest

Pinterest is another big traffic tool for me. Take the time to create at least one vertical image for each post and add them on Pinterest. Struggling to find time to pin? Then check out Tailwind or any other Pinterest scheduling tools that pin for you!

Make sure you keep up to date with the latest advice on pinning strategies and pin sizes to get the very best out of Pinterest.

3. Work on a super useful freebie to grow your mailing list

With all the different algorithm changes, traffic social media can’t be relied upon, so many bloggers and businesses are focusing on building an email list. Offering a really useful freebie is a good way to get people to sign up to your mailing list. This might be a guide, list of tips or some other exclusive content. You can read my guide to creating a freebie for your mailing list.

4. Reach out and guest post on other sites

This can be really beneficial but make sure you check the site is the right fit for your content. There are plenty of sites out there with very low traffic offering the chance to write for ‘exposure’.

Also, make sure your site is at its absolute best before you move into guest posting. This gives you the best chance of converting those who click on your blog’s link into long-term readers. This can also help boost your Domain Authority.

5. Create appealing images

Canva is a really useful tool for creating free appealing images. You can also use Canva to help you to create freebies for your mailing list (use the ebook template) or even your media kit!

An alternative to try is PicMonkey, which can also help you make attractive images that you can also use on Pinterest or Instagram.

6. Research keywords

SEO (search engine optimisation) sounds scary if you’re not a pro, but there’s really only one main thing you need to know when it comes to growing a blog for your business: keywords. Keywords are essentially the specific words or terms people are typing into a search engine (e.g. Google). By understanding what people are searching for, you can then include these in your blog post. By using keywords and implementing a strong keyword strategy, a search engine may start to show your blog in results when people search for those keywords, meaning more traffic to your blog.

There are lots of platforms to help you research keywords such as Ubersuggest or Keysearch. When you are researching keywords, you want to opt for a term that has a high volume of searches, but low competition. You can also use Google Search Console to see what keywords are already bringing in traffic to your blog.

7. Create roundup posts

Creating roundup posts are an easy way of producing new content that will both be useful to the reader and generate more traffic, as well as lowering your bounce rate. Think of a way you can group your existing content – for example, have you written a few recipes that you could group together into one listicle about your favourite recipes for winter? If you write about the different beauty products in your own product range, you could group them together into a roundup post all about skincare saviours for oily skin.

8. Answer your reader’s questions

This seems like an obvious one, but it’s so often forgotten about when creating blog content. Think about what sort of questions your current readers, customers, colleagues or target audience ask. What do they ask you most often? What are they Googling? What information do you know that could be useful to your readers? Gather their questions, and formulate a blog post around these, answering them in detail.

If you’re not sure what your reader’s questions are – ask them! Use your social media to prompt your readers: tell them to ask you anything! Instagram has a great feature wherein you can add a question box to your Instagram Stories, and Twitter is a great place for starting conversations, too.

Make sure that you are answering as many as you can within your content, using specific keywords to make it more visible. For example, if people are asking about a product you sell such as ship window film for example, ensure that you’re targeting correctly while giving a concise and clear answer.
